Win, Lose or Draw.
By Martha the Haggis Breeder.
I decided to create this article in response to a comment recently posted by an Untold reader which got me thinking about where we actually are leaking the points over the seasons. It’s not really an article, rather more just data as I have created a handy little graphic format, to clearly display all the info related to our win lose and draw stats.
I have taken a look at the positions of teams where we are dropping points. So where is it all going wrong?

Applying a brief analysis of the graphics, we can see :
Win Rate
This season, our win rate is 1 in 2 which would lead you to believe we might win a total of 19 games a season. This is down on last season where we won 21 games.
Draw Rate
This season we have drawn 8 games which already exceeds last seasons tally of 7 draws in total.
Loss Rate
Last season we lost ten games, or 1 in every 3.8 games. This season we are currently at a loss rate of 1 in 4.67 and should we continue at this rate, we are on course to lose 8 games this season compared with 10 last year.
It is worth bearing in mind that we have accumulated 1 loss against teams placed below 8th position. Compare this to last season and you see a marked improvement.
It would be handy to include data on the ref and their incorrect decisions against Arsenal info for a fuller picture but I don’t have the time. Can anyone suggest any trends that are visible from this which could be linked to events that took place?
One final point before leaving it to you to ponder the rest of the data and that is the 2007/2008 season where we won 25 games, just 1 short of the invincible season, my first thought on seeing this table was, ‘how did we not win that year?’

Sorry I meant Mario Gomez and I forgot Suarez.
uk,
Why don’t you post a picture of you in the manure shirt so we all know you’re true to yourself? I guess it’s only because it has too much shit on it.
Charlie
You will find its near impossible to ignore what happened 5 years ago as it shaped our destiny. For instance, Wenger seems to have ‘abandoned’ his policy of buying unknowns & polishing them into gems as he’s been buying the finished product(Podolski, Carzola,Giroud,Per,Arteta, etc). This might be because he felt his youngsters were not being given any chance by being targeted for some bad kicking as well as not being offered any protection by refs. This slight change in philosophy from the manager, if we may call it that, could explain why its taking longer for the new players to adapt to the Arsenal way of play; a 19yr old will adapt quicker to new methods than say a 27yr old. We don’t necessarily need a 30goal a season poacher to win stuff; utd has been winning the title over the yrs with their highest scorer just about managing double figures.20 goals is fine, if these can be shared between 3 or 4 players . We had Ade hit over 30 one season & Rvp too but didn’t win nothing. Meanwhile both times teams with 20 goal strikers were winning. This year we should have 3 players doing that, Walcott, Giroud & Podolski.
Just a reminder about your statement that we haven’t been shafted this season by refs, two games spring to mind; chelsea & city both at our own turf. One might want to argue at OT too. That’s easily 6-7 points that could’ve been in the bag, and more often that’s the difference at the end of the season.
tell you what, Arsenal didn’t receive quite that much wrong decisions yet from the refs simply because Arsenal isn’t a threat to the other so called established title contenders this season. I’ll bet you they’ll come IF somehow Arsenal manages to climb back up to to third or fourth and threaten again the Manu ManC , the Spuds, etc.etc.
One final forecast, we’ll draw with Manu at home if we’re already 5th without a chance of catching up to 4th, of course, RVP would be sidelined as well.
@Al, really, you think Podolski, Giroud and Walcott will all score twenty goals this season? Can’t see it myself as they’d need to score 30 goals in the remaining fixtures which seems not only unlikely but impossible. I reckon you could get 10,000 to 1 on that happening.
As to the refs shafting us, well we were played off the park in at least two of those games. We were utterly shocking at Manu and were lucky not to concede twice as many. And we were asleep against City for the first half and rightly had a player sent off.
Six or seven points is the difference in what, finishing fourth? I thought our prime target was to win the league. That’s Wenger’s target every year.
We used to be a great team and that maybe down to the fact that we used to play fast incisive football. Now for some reason we have been adopting this ponderous possession football which lacks a cutting edge. Wenger got obsessed with smaller and less bulky players, in awe it seems of Barca, and exactly where has that got us. We don’t have the calibre of player to play that way, and as I’ve said before, we don’t pressurize the opposition when we don’t have the ball. If we don’t sort out the mistakes we’re repeating game after game there’ll be no CL next year and even fewer good players will be interested in joining us.
Arsene needs options. Arsenal don’t have a squad this season, it is more like 4 or 5 star players trying to carry the rest. Failure to qualify for the UCL would leave us really no better off than 15 years ago. The 30m in lost TV money is roughly equal to the difference in match revenue between Chelsea (40k seat stadium) and Arsenal (60k seat stadium). Add to that the inherent unfairness of Financial Fair Play, namely that the rich stay rich, and Arsenal will struggle to recover.
I really wonder what most so called fans smoke,if players can go to teams like QPR,SWASEA and those who have no dreams of playing in Euro ever why not a fourth placed Arsenal team? Im waiting to a moron to bet if arsenal wont be in the champions league next season i have found none
Rupert,
Walcott is on 18, Giroud 14, Podolski 13, and you say 20 is impossible? Let’s have this conversation again in May
Well I checked the stats and they were wrong it seems or maybe they were just goals scored in the EPL. Anyway my oversight. That still means they’d have to score 15 goals between them. I can see Walcott exceeding 20 but I doubt Podolski and Giroud will both reach that target. I hope they do because that should mean we’ll get close to maximum points in our final games.
We lost the Birmingham game because at 2-1 Adebayo refused to pass to Bendtner.
When are we going to stop blaming Refs for our failure? If we did not win it because of refs in 2007/2008, why have we not won it till now?
Well my dear asd if I would know that I would be manager of Arsenal.
I don’t have all the answers. Do you? If so: what are you wasting your time over here. Go to Arsenal and do it.
Or you could write an article. And tell me how you would do it. And tell us how you would pay for it.
asd
It may have escaped your attention that we still have refs.
